    GEORGE PHELPS has been an artist all his life. A Baltimore, Maryland native, Phelps owned a stained glass studio for many years, then eventually moved west to Sante Fe, New Mexico, where he curated; expanded his craft to include fused glass, and continued his interest in the metaphysical - occasionally teaching classes on dream symbology. Phelps now lives in Seaside, Oregon. Over the last couple of years his art focus has taken a new path in the form of jewelry (specifically amulets), scarves, talking sticks and prayer sticks (attributed to Native American traditions). These craft pieces are designed specifically as tools of spirituality.

    In addition to his work with these spiritual tools of trade, Phelps is now offering the service of Intuitive Readings. And what are intuitive readings? Many people utilize tarot readers, palmists, handwriting analysis, astrology, channeling - it is the dawning of the New Age of psychic counseling. Whether or not Time magazine wants to discredit popular TV clairvoyant John Edwards as some nutty charlatan, and even though Ms. Cleo has been deemed a fake by some of her own employees, people who work in this field will inform that most divination practices are ages old, heavily stepped in world cultures. Does this legitimize these practices? For people who work with and those who explore the metaphysical, the extramundane, it is never a matter of believing, rather a matter of knowing, with intuition playing a key role in the dedication to these practices.

    George Phelps doesn't use cards, tea leaves or any other kind of specific tool to interpret a reading, although he will keep a quartz crystal by his side to help focus energies. So what is it he is reading? Phelps, with a gentle, warm and peaceful demeanor, sits quietly, almost in a meditative state as the inquirer reveals their issue. He then announces messages specifically for them. "The spirits and guides who are with me have a definite message for most people. People who come here are sent here for specific information, if that makes sense, and I am the messenger. Then sometimes I am just a catalyst for certain energies that transpire between myself and another."

Each piece that he creates is imbued with specific attributes; health, love, transformation. "I've predominantly been a visual artist but now I am doing work on more personal pieces that people can see, touch, feel, and keep with their body," says Phelps. "These pieces contain energy. Often I will create a piece when a specific energy comes in. Whether I want to work or not, it rather pushes me, and you do want to do the work at these times."
