Crossing Over and Talking About It:
Spiritual Conversations with George Phelps

A gaggle of "Hipfish" consortium and I recently attended a rather uncommon gathering at the home of Intuitive Reader, Mr. George Phelps of Seaside, OR. Mr. Phelps invites people into his home for what he calls, Spiritual Conversations, with the soul purpose of investigation the afterlife experience.

Fox Television hosts the show Crossing Over. Here, psychic John Edwards gives messages to loved ones from their dearly deceased. At the end of the show, those fortunate members of the audience who have come away with a contact reveal to the camera the authenticity of the information, and more than that, the emotional release and gratification of communicating with their dead loved ones. Grief is heavy to bare, and spiritual contact is often the best relief - whatever form it comes in.

I must admit, though, it is rather dizzying watching Edwards hone in on his audience to suss out the person intended for any given message. With mic in one hand and the other pointing over at the audience like some psychic auctioneer in rapid-fire speech, "I'm getting a 'T' here, a 'T'. Who is this important to? You, sir, did you just lose someone? Your father?"

Our evening with Mr. Phelps was quite dissimilar. All present were relaxed and comfortable. We sat in the living room chairs around a coffee table - a spiritual tool of sorts. A large beveled mirror atop four legs held distinctly placed crystals, and what was explained by Phelps as a collapsed tetrahedron (three-sided pyramid) in the middle, resembling perhaps a New Age candy dish. It looked good enough to eat from. I was encouraged to wave my hand over the center. Did I feel anything? Yes. Several agreed it was the formation creating the energy. Silly me, I thought it was the crystals.

On the surrounding walls hung many lovely pieces of art created by Phelps - in the transformational/meditative/healing tradition - borrowing from Native American and Egyptian culture. Iconic, colorful patterns, 3-dimensional pieces using natural materials to create "magic" formations. A natural stage was set and we proceeded into the evening with what I will refer to as a psychic salon.

We first shared our various experiences of near death, communications with departed loved ones and general intuitive inclinations. Some, of course, with more significant experiences than others. Then, Mr. Phelps spoke directly to individuals, with specific messages concerning their connections to understanding afterlife/spiritual phenomenon andtheir own propensities to work with spirit energies.

Remember, the subtitle of this gathering is: the afterlife experience. Mr. Phelps explains that he is interested in exploring the issues of death, grieving, and afterlife communications as a way to honor the life cycle, to better understand the meaning of death, our fears, denial and misuses of its power in our culture.

Spiritual Conversations with George Phelps offered room, not for skepticism, but a round table to openly discuss, or reveal, experiences of the spiritual, the supernatural, in a practical, tangible way. To give form and understanding to that which can be so intangible. We may share our more strange and rare experiences with close friends - those we trust. To come together with people you may not know in a round table discussion format and share "cosmic" information maye be good for the doubting soul.
